Today’s interview is with Tony Wheeler, the co-founder of Lonely Planet. The story of Tony and his wife Maureen beginning Lonely Planet is an incredible story. It begins in 1972 when, for their honeymoon, Tony and Maureen traveled from London, across Europe, through Asia and eventually found themselves in Sydney. When they arrived in Sydney they were asked so many questions about their journey they decided to take their notes, add some research and turn it into to a book.
Bali has quite a few events this month, kicking off with the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival, an annual event, which has today quite an international and celebrity following. Then a few days after this back down in Kuta is the 9th Kuta Karnival. The month is finished for a good cause with the annual BIWA Pink Ribbon Walk to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Please find all info on this in the Don’t Miss Chapter of this edition.
This edition is packed with articles and good information, with the increasingly full map on our centre pages being seen as a reference around southern Bali to the major tourist areas, often noticed being pulled from bags and pockets. Also inside we have featured the following; The Semara Uluwatu takes you to new heights with Finn’s Beach Club, Air Asia now offers daily flights to Bangkok, Geding Kedis is the sweetest villa with birdsong in Jimbaran, Devdan is a one stop show extravaganza for all the family in Nusa Dua, Monsoon offers all the beats and music video and food treats in Legian, MINT is the latest chic edgy venue to open on the Petitenget Strip, The Seminyak has opened to much acclaim down on the golden sandy shore of Seminyak’s golden mile and Bali Moon has consistently been shaking the cocktails and parties for many a moon now. Happy reading and discovery!
